I did a quick search for this conversation and didn't see anything, and although this has probably been discussed before, I wanted to see what album you think showcases a certain band members' talent best.

I guess it came from the Live HQ dvd during Jose's drum clinic where he suggests that INNW was the "Brandon album" and that he was sitting back and trying to give Brandon the bet rhythm section he could (along with Ben).

Hmm interesting question, INNW and Adolescents are both very impressive vocally, but Brandon also impresses me a ton on Crow and MV. Mikey I would say would be Crow, Jose deffs has some of his best flowing beats on MV, Kilmore I'd have to say MY for all the scratching (I would say S.C.I.E.N.C.E. scratching wise, but he wasn't part of the creative process for that record). The only one I'm not sure of is Ben Kenney, deffs not INNW for him though. Theirs my two cents haha

I think some of my favorite Jose riffs actually come from Light Grenades. That driving power snare in Anna Molly, the tom runs in Rogues, the weird 'train' syncopation in Paper Shoes, and oh my god by far my favorite, the way the drums come in on Oil and Water right around "We've been….dancing…on a volcano…"

Being more of a rhythm guitar player myself, I'd have to say Mike's best effort is Morning View. The rhythm he has on songs like WWYH, 11am, Mexico… all of them really, is just amazing. He flowed like a river on that album. (And as an aside, I think the closest he's come to that same rhythm since is on Defiance.)

For Kilmore I'd say he shines most on Make Yourself. I find myself humming along to not the vocals or guitar but to his scratches and noises. Songs like Consequence, Battlestar (of course) Drive (of course) Pardon Me and Out From Under all have great scratch tracks.

Ben's best showing is A Crow Left of the Murder for sure. Not only for his bass work (Smile Lines especially) but his back up vocals too. It's a shame we don't hear much of his vocals anymore, I think he adds a fine edge to a song when he chimes in.

And Jose. Well, it has to be SCIENCE. He may have had better grooves and techniques on later albums but the shit he laid down on this one was just flat out fucking cool. One badass drum album.

There we go, a nice little spread of albums there. Choice.

Jose & Ben both kill it on Crow for me. The bass parts played on Smile Lines, Priceless, Leech & The title track are standouts for me. Also, listen back to Southern Girl and totally focus on the bass, the flow of that bass line is tremendous, maybe the track that made me realize that Ben was the perfect fit for Incubus.

Jose shines throughout the album, however his tom groove on Zee Deevel is sick and the drums on Megalomaniac & Sick Sad Little world really make the track.

Brandon shines most on INNW, thats pretty self explanatory with the title track. However, I'll maybe create a touch of controversy and say Kil is most impressive on this album also. The reason for this being is that he utilizes a vast array in instruments from the keys on wolves to the subtle scratching on switchblade. He plays a vital part in creating the textures for this album.

I'd put Mike with Morning View. It's maybe not the album where he explores the most complex riffs but it's definitely the album where he cemented the trademark incubus guitar sound. The smooth overdriven sound on WYWH to the minimal phased reverberation used on nearly every single track.

People may disagree, but I wouldn't put any member down as shining most on SCIENCE and i'm sure the guys would agree. I can definitely see the appeal of SCIENCE as an album, but for me, when it comes to SCIENCE vs Crow I truly believe there is no competition. Crow is a great album and I really don't get why people hate on it. As for Light Grenades, everyone was sort of on par for that album, no standouts.

Everybody in the band is able to shine and each of the guys turn in their best performances on that record.

Brandon's vocals are expressive and emotional.
Why Mike isn't considered a modern guitar God based off of this album alone will always escape me.
Jose' s drumming is fluid, driving, exciting and plays like a lead instrument unlike any album before or since.
Ben's bass is subtle and smooth.
And Kilmore, as absent as he might seem gives that album all of its extra dabs of color.

A Crow Left of the Murder is a virtuoso album that few people outside their core fan-base know. That album sometimes sounds too good to even be from this planet.
